Empowering Montana
Meet Margaret Mitchell
Margaret Mitchell
Engineer. Problem Solver.

Champion for Montana’s Future
I’m a mother, a wife, and an engineer — and I want to use my 25+ years of experience in global IT leadership to solve tough problems for Great Falls, Cascade County, and Montana.
I grew up right here in District 10, playing kickball at Whittier School until the streetlights came on, working my first job at the Ice Cream Factory on Central, and running cross country and track for Great Falls High. I earned my degree in Computer Science Engineering from Montana State University and my MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University.
Throughout my career, I’ve built a reputation for turning complex problems into practical, efficient solutions — delivered on time and on budget. I’ve managed multimillion-dollar projects, including a $20 million data center, led global IT teams, and served as CIO for a fast-moving med-tech startup. I take pride in stretching every dollar and delivering results that work.
Why does that matter?
Because as your senator, I’ll manage public funds with the same care, discipline, and accountability that I’ve practiced throughout my career. I get genuine joy out of creating smart, effective solutions to tough problems — and that’s exactly what I plan to bring to Helena.
I believe deeply in the Montana Dream
Montanans need to have access to world-class education, our beautiful public lands, and the opportunity for everyone to build a healthy, prosperous, and free life.
I’m a fourth-generation Montanan on both sides of my family. My great-grandparents were homesteaders and farmers — hardworking people who cleared rocks from fields and stood up for free speech in rough mining towns to Montana’s new urban centers like Great Falls. They believed in the Montana Dream — that if you work hard and care for your community, you can build a healthy, prosperous life.
Education is where that dream begins. I owe much of my success to Montana’s incredible teachers — their creativity and commitment opened doors I didn’t even know existed. In today’s changing world, we must invest in our schools, our educators, and lifelong learning to ensure every Montanan can thrive.
I also believe in protecting the Montana we love
I grew up digging for fossils with my dad, skipping stones on Lake McDonald while my grandmother painted the beauty of Glacier Park, and learning about native plants from my mom. I’ve always preferred being outside rather than in – even in Winter. Our public lands are part of who we are — and they must stay in public hands. The wolves are circling, trying to take that access away from us. I’m here to defend our public lands and ensure they remain open and that their treasures are responsibly managed for generations to come.
That dream is under threat today
Access to affordable healthcare, housing, and good-paying jobs is at risk. In Great Falls, over 6,000 jobs depend on our healthcare economy — jobs that support families and sustain our community. We must protect that foundation while keeping taxes fair and opportunity within reach for every Montanan.
My Montana Dream was to bring my family back to Montana. In 2022 that dream came true. We now live on the Ayrshire dairy that my great grandfather founded in 1906. I now run a successful, sustainable fashion business and give back to the community that gave so much to me. I love Great Falls. I love Montana. And I would be honored to represent you in the Montana State Senate — together we can protect the Montana Dream for you, your family, and the generations to come.
